Cover: In healthy skin, the interaction between EphA2 and ephrinA1 on the surfaces of colliding fibroblasts triggers the activation of contractile signals, causing the cells to move apart and scatter. However, upon injury, the wound sensor syndecan-4 is upregulated, suppressing EphA2 expression through a PKCα-dependent pathway. As a result, syndecan-4 reduces EphA2 signalling and fibroblast repulsion, allowing fibroblasts to cluster in the wound bed and drive wound contraction. See mjae054 by Brooks et al. for details.
