Cover: Highly condensed chromosomes are intricately organized in the cell nucleus to underpin the desired gene expression. Four aspects of current chromosome modeling strategies are illustrated by this image (bubbles at top, left to right: data-driven and physics-based 3D structure modeling; bubbles at bottom, left to right: data-driven and physics-based 4D dynamics modeling). The key points of these approaches include incorporating experimental information into coarse-grained models, mechanistic modeling of molecular-level processes, and invoking the energy landscape theory as a framework. Ultimately, the theoretical work aims to unravel the complex structure-function relationships of chromosomes and explore potential applications in future genome engineering. See mjad042 by Feng et al. for details.
